1st Workshop of COST Action C21
"Ontologies for Urban Development: Interfacing Urban Information Systems"
6,7 November 2006 -
University of Geneva
Deadline for registration: 30 September 2006
Workshop Description
The main objective of this Workshop is to increase the knowledge and promote the use of ontologies in the domain of Urban Development projects,
in order to facilitate communications between information systems, stakeholders and Urban Development specialists at a European level.
The Workshop is organized by the members of the COST Action C21: Towntology "Urban Ontologies for an Improved Communication in Urban Civil Engineering Projects".
This workshop is intended to provide an examination of recent advances in
ontologies for urban development projects, aiming for outcomes such as:
- providing an up to date review and taxonomy of ontologies in the urban development field, contrasting existing design methodologies, techniques, glossaries and production standards;
- developing a set of guidelines for the construction of multi-lingual ontologies for Urban Civil Engineering and related areas, based on practical examples (cases);
- analysing the role of ontologies as a tool to foster an improved communication between UCE and other urban development stakeholders.
In order to encourage participation there is no registration fee, but the number of participants will be limited.
Topics of Interest
The Ontology for urban development workshop invites research submissions on topics including but not limited to those listed below:
1) State of the art on ontologies dealing with urban data or spatial data:
- Construction building ontology,
- traffic engineering ontology,
- planning and design modeling
- spatial modeling in ontology
- socio-cultural and quality of life ontologies
2) Ontology development guidelines
- Urban dimension, environmental dimension in ontologies,
- user needs and drives for ontology specification,
- multilingual ontology development methods,
- context representation in ontology
3) Applications using ontologies
- GIS and Ontologies
- use cases of ontology in urban process or GIS tools,
- participation and conflict resolution,
- interface urban structure
- Ontologies for urban environment systems
The conference is organised by the
COST C21 "Urban Ontologies for an improved communication in UCE projects".
The COST C21 is supported by the
COST (European Co-operation in th field of Scientific and Technical Research), in the domain of Urban Development.
